Bulldogs Host Samford On Saturday

STARKVILLE – The Mississippi State women’s tennis team is set to take on Samford inside the Rula Tennis Pavilion on Saturday at 1 p.m.

“We have had a really good week in practice,” head coach Chris Hooshyar said. “We had one of our matches canceled. We were meant to play Samford and Alcorn State, but Alcorn State couldn’t make it up. The girls have practiced well and are excited from the week before. We had some things we needed to improve on from last week that we focused on for tomorrow. Energy and intensity out the gate and then continuing to nail down the habits that we create daily. It’s one of those matches I am excited about, and it’s fun to hit the courts again.”

MSU is off to a 2-0 start to the season, having defeated Middle Tennessee State 4-2 and Jacksonville State 4-1 last Saturday.

Mississippi State’s lineup features Chloé Cirotte, who went 2-0 against her opponents last weekend. Maria Rizzolo comes into Saturday’s match having seven singles victories dating back to the fall. Along with Cirotte, Alexandra Mikhailuk is also 2-0 on the season and has collected five singles wins dating back to the fall.

Freshman Jayna Clemens earned her first collegiate win against Middle Tennessee State while also clinching the match for the Bulldogs versus MTSU. Alessia Tagliente also garnered a win last weekend against her Jacksonville State opponent.

State’s doubles tandems of Mikhailuk and Rizzolo, Cirotte and Clemens, and Tagliente and Dharani Niroshan each grabbed a win against their respective opponents during the home season opener.

This match will mark Samford’s first match of the 2024 season.
