CARY, N.C. – The Tennessee women’s tennis duo of junior Catherine Aulia and senior Elza Tomase continued their impressive run at the 2024 ITA All-American Championships, combining for three wins for the second consecutive day at Cary Tennis Park.
In the singles Round of 32, No. 62 Tomase amassed a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Gracie Epps from Oklahoma State. The Liepaja, Latvia, native fully controlled the match, taking 12 of 15 games. Tomase advanced to the main draw competition and will face Stanford’s Alexis Blokhina on Wednesday.
No. 81 Aulia also tallied a win in the Round of 32 singles play, joining Tomase in the main draw. The Rosebery, Australia, native hung a convincing 6-7 (6), 6-3, 6-1 victory over Oklahoma’s No. 100 Emma Staker. The win marked Aulia’s second ranked singles win of the season. She is set to take on Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer from UCLA tomorrow on Wednesday.
In doubles action, No. 23 Aulia/Tomase capped off their qualifying draw by notching a 6-2, 7-5 ledger against No. 74 Theadora Rabman and Alana Boyce from North Carolina. Tennessee rallied to earn their second straight win over a ranked pair this season. The duo will play NC State’s Maddy Zampardo and Gabriella Broadfoot on Wednesday.
