Arizona Shut-Out Michigan State and Missouri


TUCSON, Ariz. – The Wildcats shut-out both Michigan State and Missouri in straight-set singles victories. Clinching both matches to a 4-0 finish, putting Arizona at a 4-1 record. 

 

The Cats secured both doubles points for the day. Martyna Ostrzygalo and Reece Carter dominated, earning two doubles victories to gain Arizona the points. Doubles pair Lauren Friedman and Brandelyn Fulgenzi took down Michigan State’s Ayshe Can and Liisa Vehivilinen 6-2. Senior-Freshmen duo Kayla Wilkins and Teja Tirunelveli defeated Andrea Artemedi and Emelie Schwarte 6-2. 

 

The Wildcats shut-out both Michigan State and Missouri in straight-set singles victories. Clinching both matches to a 4-0 finish, putting Arizona at a 4-1 record. 

 

Fulgenzi started it off for the Wildcats as she put up a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Natalie Stansy (MSU). Carter added to the score not long after, defeating Vehivilinen 6-3, 6-4. To finish it off for the Cats Tirunelveli obtained her win against Matilde Morais 6-2, 6-3. 

 

The Cats put up the second point of the board against Missouri when Fulgenzi quickly took down Romary Cardenas 6-3, 6-1. Tanvi Narendran put up the third point for Arizona in a 6-3, 6-1 win against Andrea Artemedi. To clinch the match, Ostrzygalo put up a 6-4, 6-3 victory on court one. 

 

The Wildcats continue the season away, traveling for the ITA Kickoff Friday, January 26 and Saturday, January 27 in Atlanta, Ga.
