Canada’s Bianca Andreescu has decided on a new coach. The former World No.4 has hired Christophe Lambert and will begin working with him next week as she begins her off-season training.

Lambert will leave his post as the high performance tennis director for Tennis New Zealand to join forces with the 22-year-old Canadian.

“Bianca asked me to coach her and I accepted the job. It was an offer I couldn’t refuse,” Lambert said.

Andreescu finished 2022 at 45 in the world after compiling a 20-13 record. The Mississauga, Ontario native parted ways with Sven Groeneveld at the end of the season after spending over a year with him. Previously she had been coached by Sylvain Bruneau of Tennis Canada.

Lambert has Tennis Canada roots as well, and history with Andreescu. He worked with the Canadian during her junior days, and the pair have kept in touch over the years.

Andreescu started her season in April after taking a six-month mental health hiatus. She showed some strong form, reaching the final at Bad Homburg and recording five Top-20 wins.

She’s hoping for follow-through in 2022.

“I’m just taking it day by day, and it’s a great way to end off the year as well, just bringing back all the emotions that fire a lot in me,” she said at Billie Jean King Cup earlier this month. “I think I’m going to have a great preseason. Next year I really think I can crack the top 10 again.”
