Alabama Falls to No. 8 NC State


RALEIGH, N.C. – The Alabama women’s tennis team fell to No. 8 NC State, 0-4, on day one of the ITA Kickoff Weekend. The Crimson Tide will play Iowa in a consolation match on Sunday at 10 a.m. CT.

Alabama (2-1) dropped the top two doubles matches to NC State. Sophie Abrams and Anna Zyryanova, who rank ninth nationally, defeated the Crimson Tide’s No. 41 Loudmilla Bencheikh and Anne Marie Hiser, 6-3. The Wolfpack secured the doubles point after the seventh ranked doubles duo, Amelia Rajecki and Maddy Zampardo, topped Alabama’s Petra Sedlackova and Anna Parkhomenko, 6-3.

NC State won the final three games in straight sets during singles to claim the 4-0 win over Alabama. The Wolfpack’s third ranked Amelia Rajecki defeated No. 18 Loudmilla Bencheikh (6-0, 6-2), while No. 40 Anna Zyryanova topped Margaux Maquet (6-1, 6-4) and No. 19 Sophie Abrams defeated Ola Pitak (6-0, 6-1).
