IOWA CITY, Iowa – Shuquian “Sally” Xu will join the University of Iowa tennis program in January and be available to compete during the spring semester, it was announced Monday by head coach Sasha Boros-Schmid.
“Sally is a terrific addition to our team,” said Boros-Schmid. “She has worked hard to become a Hawkeye and play for the University of Iowa, and I can’t wait to see her in a Hawkeye uniform competing with her new teammates. Sally is skilled and athletic and that combines well with her drive to be her best. We are thrilled to have Sally join our Hawkeye tennis family.”
Xu, a China native, had a career-high International Tennis Federation ranking of 75 in Oct. 2024. She currently has a career-high WTA singles ranking of 1400 and an ITF singles ranking of 101.
She will be a freshman for the Hawkeyes.
“Iowa’s Midwest charm, top-notch facilities, and the seamless blend of academics and sports have drawn me in,” said Xu. “The warm and friendly people make it feel like home. I am grateful for this opportunity to begin a mysterious journey and become part of the Iowa family. I can’t wait to start this new chapter!”
The Hawkeyes will open the spring season Jan. 20, hosting Illinois State at noon at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Center.
