CARY, N.C. – Two members of Mississippi State’s women’s tennis team are looking to make their mark over the next few days in one college tennis’ top tournaments.
The Bulldogs sent Emmanouela Antonaki and Gia Cohen to Cary to take part in the ITA Women’s All-American Championships from Oct. 1-9. The event will feature 216 of the top singles players in collegiate tennis as well as 48 elite doubles tandems playing at Cary Tennis Park.
“Emmanouela [Antonaki] and Gia [Cohen] have been selected to play one of the three national singles and doubles event this year,” head coach Daryl Greenan said. “They will be competing amongst the best players in the country. We are all excited to see them compete at that level.”
Singles prequalifying starts on Saturday with one MSU player taking the court. Transfer Cohen gets started at 1:30 p.m. against No. 98 Kimmi Hance of UCLA.
Qualifying for the ITA All-American Championships will begin on Monday and the main draw starts on Wednesday. No. 52 Antonaki received a bye during the prequalifying rounds.
Antonaki and Cohen will participate in the doubles portion of the tournament, which starts on Monday.
The ITA All-American Championships are the second tournament State has participated in this fall. For Cohen and Antonaki this is the first tournament of the fall they have participated in.
