Women's Tennis Readies for Home Matches on Three Straight Days


The No. 31 UCLA women’s tennis team (6-5, 1-3 Pac-12) bridges the months of March and April with home matches on three consecutive days, starting Thursday at 12 p.m. PT against UC Santa Barbara (2-11, 2-1 Big West). A return to conference play follows, with the Bruins hosting Colorado (9-6, 0-3) Friday at 1:30 p.m. and No. 59 Utah (10-6, 1-2) Saturday at 12 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT

UCLA got off on the right foot, but ultimately fell to No. 18 Stanford in a 5-2 conference result Sunday afternoon at Los Angeles Tennis Center. The Bruins earned the doubles point and Fangran Tian added a win after the overall decision was sealed. Alexis Blokhina clinched the victory for the Cardinal, completing a two-win day.

UCLA VS. UC SANTA BARBARA, COLORADO AND UTAH

UCLA is 36-0 overall against UC Santa Barbara. The programs most recently met Feb. 4, 2022, when the Bruins dropped just eight games in five completed matches for a 4-0 result at Los Angeles Tennis Center. Vanessa Ong clinched the team win, backing up efforts by Abbey Forbes and Sasha Vagramov. UCLA is 11-0 versus Colorado and turned in a 7-0 victory at LATC on March 4, 2022. Vagramov sealed the win for the Bruins, who dropped just one set on the day. Forbes and Wagle preceded Vagramov’s decider with their own wins. UCLA is 20-0 when facing Utah. The Bruins prevailed 4-0 on March 6, 2022, with Vagramov again providing the clinching victory. Wagle and Kimmi Hance also turned in singles wins. The Utes forced a tiebreaker in the deciding doubles match, but were unable to break through for a point.

SCOUTING THE GAUCHOS, BUFFALOES AND UTES

UC Santa Barbara holds a record of 2-11, with both of its wins coming in Big West play (2-1). Amelia Honer of the Gauchos is listed at No. 61 in the ITA National Singles Rankings, while the combination of Honer and Kira Reuter is No. 24 on the doubles list. Colorado is 9-6 (0-3 in Pac-12 play), while Utah is 10-6 (1-2). The Utes are ranked No. 59 by the ITA.
