Women's Tennis Opens Dual Season at Kentucky


CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois women’s tennis is set to open its 2023 dual season bright and early on the road at Kentucky on Sunday morning. Action is slated to open at 9 a.m. CT from the Hillary J. Boone Indoor Tennis Center in Lexington, Ky.

Admission is free for the public. Fans away from Lexington can follow along with live stats or watch live on Track Tennis.

Illinois is 0-3-1 all-time against the Wildcats with the most recent meeting coming Feb. 6, 2016.

Illini Notes

Head coach Evan Clark is in his seventh year as the head coach of Illinois women’s tennis and holds an overall dual record of 97-67 (.591) and is 50-25 (.667) in Big Ten play.

The Illini are coming off a 16-9 season with an 8-3 Big Ten record in 2021-22.

Illinois returns seven of its eight players from last season, including seniors Emily Casati, Josie Frazier and Ashley Yeah; junior Kate Duong; and sophomores Kida Ferrari, Megan Hueser, and Kasia Treiber. The Illini also welcomed new freshman Violeta Martinez to the squad. All eight Illini will travel for the match.

Next Up

Next weekend the fighting Illini will head to Raleigh, North Carolina, for the ITA Kickoff Weekend hosted by NC State on Jan. 28-29. Illinois will play the Wolfpack Saturday the 28th at 10 am. CT before taking on either Vanderbilt or Furman on Jan. 29.
