Women’s Tennis Grabs Two Wins to Start the Season

OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss women’s tennis team grabbed two wins against two different schools on Sunday. The Rebels first defeated ETSU, 5-2, and then swept North Alabama, 4-0.
 
The Rebels (2-0, 0-0 SEC) got the day started by winning all three doubles matches against ETSU (2-2, 0-0 SoCon). Reka Zadori and Emma Kette worked a 6-2 victory at No 3 doubles. The win marks Kette’s first doubles win in her first doubles appearance. The senior duo, Lillian Gabrielsen and Kelsey Mize, gave Ole Miss the doubles point, winning their No. 2 doubles match, 6-4.
 
Anaelle Leclercq-Ficher and Ludmila Kareisova finished doubles action with a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles. It is the first time the two played doubles together this year.
 
In singles play, the Rebels extended their lead with a quick win at No. 6 singles. The freshman, Kette, rolled through her opponent for her first career singles win, 6-1, 6-2. The Buccaneers fought back by taking No. 3 singles. However, Ole Miss won the next to singles match at No. 5 singles and No. 2 singles to secure the Rebels victory.
 
Zadori and Kareisova won their matches in straight sets. Zadori won her third straight singles match by scores of 6-3 and 6-4. Kareisova battled to a 7-5 first set win and cruised to a 6-0 second set win. Leclercq-Ficher put the cherry on top with a third set tiebreaker win at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 5-7 [10-4].
 
 
The Rebels’ day did not end there as the team went on to sweep North Alabama, 4-0, later in the afternoon. The team’s first sweep since its 4-0 victory over No. 58 Kentucky last April.
