Kentucky

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss women’s tennis fell to No. 18 Vanderbilt, 5-2, in their SEC opener. However, Ludmila Kareisova and Reka Zadori landed ranked singles wins.

In doubles action, Ole Miss (6-3, 0-1 SEC) fell at No. 2 doubles but fought hard on courts one and three. Eventually, Vanderbilt (7-3, 1-0 SEC) took No. 3 doubles, 6-3, and the doubles point.

The Rebels never stopped fighting from the beginning of the match to the end. Unfortunately, the Rebels dropped the first three singles matches, which clinched the win for the Commodores.

Despite losing the match, Ole Miss continued to battle on courts two, three, and five. Kareisova took the advantage over her opponent, winning the first set, 6-4. The sophomore was forced into a third-set super tiebreaker after losing the second set, 6-3. It was a back-and-forth tiebreaker until Kareisova won three straight and finally took the third set, 10-8. The Czechia native earned her first dual ranked singles win and her team-leading fourth overall, defeating No. 65 Anna Ross.

Zadori also competed in a third-set super tiebreaker but took a different route to get there. The junior dropped her first set, 6-2, then forced a third with a 6-3 second set victory. She started down in the third set but then turned it around for the 10-7 win. Zadori grabbed her first ranked win of the season, taking down No. 98 Anessa Lee.

In the night’s final match, Lillian Gabrielsen grinded for three sets but fell short against No. 96 Holly Staff in the third position. She, like Zadori, lost her opening set 6-1 but then won her second set…
