Women's Tennis Concludes Play at the Texas A&M Invite

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Utah Women’s Tennis team finished their last day of play on Sunday, Oct. 23, at the Texas A&M Fall Invitational.

“Definitely had some challenging matches to end the weekend with,” remarked head coach Ric Mortera. “We certainly would like to have some of those situations back. However, that is the great thing about the fall. We learn a lot about how our development plans are going and what areas we need to look at. It will be great to get home, heal up, and get ready for our next event.”

On the tournament’s final day, Utah only participated in singles on the last day.

Samantha Horwood was the first Ute to hit the courts. She competed against Gianna Pielet from Texas A&M and lost 6-1, 6-3.

Katya Hersh went up against another Texas A&M player, Elise Robbins, and was defeated 6-2, 6-3.

Kaila Barksdale played against Texas Tech’s Olivia Peet and lost 6-2, 6-3. Madison Tattini battled against another Red Raider, Cristina Tiglea, and was defeated 6-4, 6-0.

Marcela Lopez closed out her tournament play against Diae El Jardi from Rice and fell 6-3, 6-4.

Anastasia Goncharova was able to clinch the only Utah win against Rice’s Marte Lambrecht, 6-3, 6-3.
