TUCSON, Ariz. — Arizona Women’s Tennis has added Maria Garcia, a freshman transfer from Auburn, to its 2025-26 roster, head coach Ryan Stotland announced on Friday.
Garcia arrives in Tucson after a spring debut in the SEC, where she posted a 5-1 singles record in dual matches, competing primarily at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions. She also tallied an 18-11 doubles record alongside partner Ava Esposito, playing exclusively at the No. 3 spot. The duo earned a ranked doubles win over LSU’s No. 35 Tilwith Di Girolami and Gaby Rivera and clinched the team victory against Missouri.
A native of Lisbon, Portugal, Garcia has represented her country on the international stage, including the 2024 Billie Jean King Cup.
Before college, Garcia claimed Portugal singles championships at the U16 and U18 levels and doubles titles from U12 through U18. Her junior career also featured four ITF Junior doubles titles and a singles and doubles sweep at the J100 Lousada in 2023.
“We are so excited to welcome Maria to our Wildcat Family!” said Stotland. “Her reputation for being a great teammate combined with her high intensity and passion to become the best she can be is evident when you see her or talk to anyone who knows her. She is a perfect fit for the University of Arizona. Maria knows what it’s like to be on a good team and brings her skills to a young and talented team. We know she will excel here as an Arizona Wildcat. We cannot be more excited for Maria and our future with her! Maria will make an impact for Wildcat Nation and we know she is going to be one you will want to watch now and during her pro career.”
Garcia cited the trust she felt in the coaching staff and her growing connection with the program as key reasons for choosing Arizona.
“I chose Arizona because I felt the most confidence and trust and the relationship I was building with the coaches,” Garcia said. “I’m super excited about the place.”
