Women of Troy Wrap Action at Fall Ranked Spotlight, Battle in the Bay

The USC Women’s tennis team closed out an action-packed weekend on Sunday morning as competition drew to a close at the Fall Ranked Spotlight in Cary, N.C. 
 
It was freshman Madison Sieg who led USC at the Fall Ranked Spotlight, finishing runner-up first in the women’s singles top draw. Sieg defeated four opponents before eventually falling to UNC’s Fiona Crawley 6-4, 6-0 in the A-1 final. 
 
Also competing at the Carolina spotlight event were Trojans #1 Eryn Cayetano (fell in the quarterfinal to Crawley (UNC) 6-2, 6-1) and #65 Snow Han (fell in the quarterfinal to Ratliff 6-1, 3-6, 7-6(5). 
 
USC picked up a handful of doubles wins at the Spotlight event as Trojans Sloane Morra and Snow Han would team up to reach the finals in their draw.
 
Back on the west coast, USC’s Naomi Cheong defeated USF’s Rita Colyer 6-3, 6-1 at the Battle In the Bay. Cheong went on the defeat ASU’s Marianna Argyrokastriti 3-6, 6-4,6-3 before falling to Pepperdine’s Janice Tjen 7-6 (11-9), 6-1. 
 
Other victories at the Battle in the Bay came from Trojan rookie Emma Charney (def. Magrini of Fresno State 6-1, 7-6(4)) and Nathalie Rodilosso/McKenna Koenig who teamed up to defeat [3] Novak/Rojas (OSU) 8-6. Individually, Rodilosso defeated USF’s Chiho Mushika 6-4, 5-7, 10-7. 
 
Up Next 
Following this weekend’s action, the Women of Troy will turn their attention to the Austin ITF $25K (starting tomorrow, Sept. 26), the SoCal InterCollegiate Tournament (Sept. 29-Oct. 2) and the ITA All-American Championships (Oct. 1 – Oct. 9).
