Will Grant & Axel Nefve Fall in NCAA Doubles Championship


ORLANDO, Fla. – A tremendous season came to an end for Florida men’s tennis’ Will Grant and Axel Nefve, as the Gators pair fell in the round of 16 in the NCAA Doubles Championship on Thursday afternoon at the USTA National Campus.
 
Into the round of 16 after defeating No. 13 Stefan Dostanic/Bradley Frye from USC 3-6, 7-5 [10-4] last night in the first round, No. 5 Grant/Nefve took on their second straight top-20 pairing in Ohio State’s No. 16 Andrew Lutschaunig/James Trotter.
 
The first set was on-serve for the first five games, until Grant/Nefve were broken serving down 3-2. Lutschaunig/ Trotter won the final two games and took the first set 6-2. Florida’s pair held strong through the first six games in the following frame and were leveled at 3-3. However, the Buckeyes won the final three games, breaking twice, and earned the victory 6-3.
 
Grant and Nefve played at the top doubles spot all season for the Gators, finishing with a 16-12 overall record with 11 ranked victories. By earning one of the top eight seeds into the NCAA Doubles Championship, Grant/Nefve earned All-American recognition by the ITA.
