Wake Forest Falls to Seminoles in First Season Conference Road Test


TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Taking on a challenge of its first road match within this year’s Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) competition, No. 19 Wake Forest showed fight throughout Friday evening (March 10) but suffered a 5-2 defeat at Florida State (7-5, 2-2).

The Demon Deacons (11-6, 2-2) turned heads in their collective efforts to secure the doubles point during the first half of Friday. In singles, No. 38 Casie Wooten headlined the night with a come-from-behind solo victory in three sets, downing No. 70 Anna Arkadianou. The performance was the junior’s second ranked singles win of 2023.

The match also featured a fourth consecutive doubles win for both No. 16 Anna Brylin/Brooke Killingsworth Nevena Carton/Whitley Pate.


How it Happened

  • Both second and third doubles split the first two games once play unfolded.

  • Nevena Carton/Whitley Pate trailed closely on their own court (2-3).

  • Florida State finished victorious in second doubles.

  • Not long afterward, Brylin/Killingsworth again worked to make their score become even in first doubles for the fourth time (4-4).

  • Carton/Pate came back from two games down to create a 5-5 margin on court three.

  • Carton/Pate finished in an exceptional come-from-behind victory, winning four consecutive games in a 7-5 decision.

  • Brylin/Killingsworth then entered a tiebreaker.

  • Brylin and Casie Wooten each took a 3-2 lead in the opening set of singles.

  • Killingsworth soon also stepped in front, 4-2.
