NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt men’s tennis opened home play Saturday with a victory over the Tigers of TSU and a loss to those of Princeton.
Princeton Tigers
Clinching the doubles point were Macsen Sisam and Joubert Klopper taking the 6-4 victory on Court 3 and Michael Ross and Nathan Cox coming out on top at Court 2—giving the Commodores a 1-0 advantage going into singles play.
Princeton found the equalizer, with Klopper dropping straight sets on Court 1. The Dores picked up a singles point with Ross’ 6-3, 6-4 victories on Court 3. Jeremie Casabon and Siim Troost both forced third sets in their respective matches, but they ultimately fell short with Troost dropping 4-6 and Casabon 2-6.
“We had another good start by winning four of six first sets in singles against Princeton, but we’re not finishing,” head coach Ian Duvenhage said. “We have to capitalize on our starts and close out our opponents.”
Princeton topped Vanderbilt 4-2.
TSU Tigers
The second match of the day started with the Dores again picking up the doubles point, with Troost/Paul Wang and Sisam/Klopper both winning their matches.
Vanderbilt’s momentum never wavered, and the Commodores clinched the match with Troost, Marcus Ferreira and Cox each winning straight sets. Ross and Klopper also took back-to-back sets, picking up two additional points.
The Commodores beat the Tigers 6-0.
On Deck: Vanderbilt continues home play on Feb. 12, hosting Rice at noon.
