Vanderbilt Women's Tennis | First Action in San Juan

SAN JUAN, P.R. – The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team kicked off the first day of action at the San Juan Invitational on Friday with singles play against Michigan followed by doubles versus Florida State.

Holly Staff – No. 64 in the ITA rankings for singles – opened play with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Michigan’s Nicole Hammond, ranked No. 113. The Commodores added another victory courtesy of freshman Bridget Stammel by a score of 7-6 (8-6), 6-0 against Andrea Cerdan, who entered the match at No. 114 in the ITA rankings.

In doubles, the Commodores’ pairing of Celia-Belle Mohr and Anessa Lee battled to a 7-6 (8-6) win against Florida State’s Anna Arkadianou and Millie Bissett. In a second round of doubles, Mohr paired with Staff with a 7-5 win, while Bridget Stammel and Amy Stevens secured a 7-6 victory.

The Dores are back in action for Day 2 of the San Juan Invitational on Saturday.
