Utes fall 4-2 to the Ducks

The University of Utah women’s tennis team was defeated by the Oregon Ducks in Eugene, Oregon Sunday afternoon, 4-2. 

Utah had a slow start to the match with doubles. Samantha Horwood and Katya Townsend lost their match on court two against Jo-Yee Chan and Ares Teixido Garcia, 6-0. Kaila Barksdale and Marcela Lopez were defeated by Myah Petchey and Karin Young, 6-1, giving the Ducks the doubles point. Anastasia Goncharova and Madison Tattini’s match was left unfinished. 

Oregon was able to extend their lead in singles with Lopez losing her match, 6-3, 6-2, against Young. Tattini earned Utah their first point on court two against Teixido Garcia 7-5, 6-2. Horwood was able to tie up the score after beating Chan 6-1, 5-7, 6-4. Goncharova on court four and Townsend on court one took their matches to the third set, but both were defeated by their opponents giving the Ducks the win. Barksdale’s match was left unfinished.

Utah women’s tennis gets a week off before heading to Los Angeles to take on the USC Trojans on Friday, March 31 at 2:30 p.m. and the UCLA Bruins the following day at 1 p.m.
