OJAI, Calif. – The Utah men’s tennis team’s season came to an end Wednesday afternoon as the Utes fell 4-0 to Washington in the first round of the Pac-12 Tournament.
Utah had Washington on the ropes in the doubles round. Dylan Applegate and Gianluca Citadini defeated Huskie duo Heman Nama and Nedim Suko in the No. 3 spot with a 6-2 score. UW was able to get at the No. 1 doubles spot leaving the doubles advantage point to the No. 2 spot.
Jayson Blando and Michael Blando took Cesar Bouchelaghem and Jim Hendrikx into a tiebreak but couldn’t edge ahead. The Huskies picked up a 7-6 win at the No. 2 spot and 1-0 advantage going into singles action.
Washington picked up its first single win at the No. 5 and No. 2 spots to take a 3-0 lead. The match was clinched at the No. 3 spot.
At the No. 1 spot, Geronimo Espin Busleiman took his first set into extra games but fell 7-5. He picked up a 6-1 win in the second set to force a third set. Espin Busleiman was ahead 1-0 in the third set but remained unfinished.
Applegate dropped his first set 6-3 but started the second set out with a 4-0 lead. Applegate was ahead in the second set 5-4 before it went unfinished.
Michael Blando took his first set into a tiebreak and came away with the victory 7-6. He was down 5-2 in the second set before the match was clinched.
