Utah Wraps Up ITA Regionals


SALT LAKE CITY  – The University of Utah men’s tennis team competed in the ITA Regionals hosted by UNLV with several Utes having a strong showing. Utah was led by Berk Bugarikj who took finished out tournament claiming third. 


SINGLES

In the main draw, Berk Bugarikj made it all the way to the semifinals. He started with a 6-4, 6-2 win over New Mexico’ Nicolas Recoura. In the Round of 32, Bugarikj defeated Semen Aginskiy from NAU with scores of 6-2, 7-6 (7-2). 

He later defeated Arjun Kersten from Air Force with scores of 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) to advance to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, Bugarikj defeated Boise State’s James Van Herzeele 6-3, 6-4.  Bugarikj’s run came to an end in the semifinals where he fell to Daniel Sancho Arbizu in three sets. 

In the first set, Bugarikj picked up a 6-0 win but fell 2-6 in the second set. The third set went into a tiebreak but Bugarikj fell just short with a final score of 7-6 (7-3). 

Bugarikj played in a match up to claim third place. He took on Jett Middleton and came away victorious with a 7-5, 6-2 win. 

In the consolation bracket of the main draw, Emmett Potter picked up a 6-1, 3-6, 10-4 win over Tobias Wallin from NMSU. In the consolation round of 16, Potter defeated Dylan Jaen from Boise State 6-4, 7-5. 



Reid Jarvis picked up a 6-4, 6-1 win over Daniil Kakhniuk from New Mexico in the consolation round of 32. He then picked up a 2-6, 6-3, 10-7 win over Boise State’s Adam Duda. 




Max Relic picked up a 4-6, 6-1, 10-7 win over Jowan Rawson from Idaho State in the consolation main draw first round. He then defeated AJ Moore from Air Force with scores of 6-2, 3-6, 11-9. Relic picked up a consolation quarterfinals victory by defeating

Jarvis 6-4, 7-5. He then fell 6-4, 6-2 to Valentino De Pellegrin from Idaho State in the semifinals. 



Dante Teramo also found success in the consolation main draw picking up a 6-2, 6-1 win over Paul Theate from Nevada and then later defeated Phillip Deaton from Air Force with 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) scores. 




In the qualifying draw, Charles Frey defeated Weber State’s Franco Alexis Quijano 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) in the Round of 64. In the Round of 32 Frey fell to BYU’s TJ Wells. Frey dropped the first set 6-0 to Wells but battled in the second set forcing it into extra games but fell 7-5.
