Utah Set to Take on Old Dominion in NCAA Regional


The No. 19 University of Utah men’s tennis team is headed to the NCAA Tournament and are set to take on Old Dominion, Saturday, May 6 at 8 a.m. (MT) in the Chapel Hill Regional. 

NCAA BOUND

For the fourth time in the last five seasons, the Utah Utes are off to the NCAA Championships. This is the 16th NCAA appearance for the Utes in program history and the second time it has earned an at-large selection since 2019.

NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

The first and second-round competition occurs May 5-7 and features four teams playing in a single-elimination format. The winner of each site advances to the super-regional competition on May 12 or 13. Each super-regional site will feature two teams playing a single-elimination format. The super-regional winners advance to the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida, where the eight teams will compete for the national championship on May 19-20. 

SCOUTING OLD DOMINION

The Monarchs of Old Dominion enter the NCAA Championships with a record of 18-9 on the season and are ranked No. 62 in the latest ITA National Team Ranking. The Monarchs downed South Alabama in the Sun Belt Tournament Championships to earn their spot in the NCAA Tournament. Old Dominion has won seven consecutive matches and 10 of their last 11. ODU’s Cosme Rolland De Ravel and Francois Le Tallec have posted a 16-3 doubles record with most wins coming at the No. 3 spot. Rolland De Ravel has also posted an impressive singles record sitting at 19-7 on the year. Younes Lalami has a 7-9 singles record at the No. 1 spot for the Monarchs. 

PAC-12 REGULAR SEASON CHAMPS

For the first time in school history, Utah claimed a share of the Pac-12 Regular Season Title by posting a 6-2 record. The six wins are the most wins the program has had since joining the Pac-12 in 2011. 

PAC-12 TOURNAMENT RECAP

Utah started the tournament off with a 4-1 win over UCLA giving the Utes their first semifinal appearance. In the semifinals, Utah downed Arizona in a 4-3 battle to send the Utes to the finals for the first time in school history. Utah took on USC in the finals and after getting the doubles point ended up falling 4-2.
