Utah head to Ed Collins Classic in San Diego


FIRST SERVE
The Utah men’s tennis program will be competing at the Ed Collins Spring Classic invitational tournament this weekend, hosted by University of San Diego and San Diego State University. Matches will begin on Friday, Mar.17 and will conclude on Sunday, Mar. 19.

Utah’s first opponent will be the Memphis Tigers. The match will be played on Friday at the Hogan Tennis Center at USD with the first serve at 3 p.m. MT. Following Friday’s match, the squad will face either SDSU or Princeton, depending on results from the initial matches.

This tournament prefaces the beginning of Pac-12 play for the Utes, with eight matches lined up over the next month.

IN THE BOOKS

Head Coach Roeland Brateanu continues keeping the Utah team in the ranks, holding a No. 70 position for the team overall. In doubles play, Berk Burgarikj and Patrik Trhac continue to grip the rankings, coming in at No. 21 in the nation in the most recent publications from ITA. Geronimo Espin Busleiman stands at No. 54 in the nation for singles.

SCOUTING THE COMPETITION

The Utes will potentially face some of the top-ranked teams during the Ed Collins Spring Classic, including hosts No. 34 USD and SDSU, No. 25 Memphis, No. 35 Tulane, No. 36 VCU, No. 51 Princeton, and No. 7 Harvard.
