Utah Defeats Princeton 4-2 in Semifinal Round of San Diego Invite

San Diego, Calif. – The Utah tennis team advances to the winners bracket for final round of play at the Ed Collins Spring Classic after defeating No. 51 Princeton 4-2. The team quickly secured the doubles point and clinched the match for another victory, bringing their overall record to 14-2 with an 11-match winning streak.

During doubles play, the Utes once again played out all three matches. On court three, Francisco Bastias and Bruno Caula fell to Tigers Sebastian Sec and Ellis Short 6-0. On court one, Berk Bugarikj and Patrik Trhac defeated the Princeton duo 6-3, leaving the point to be decided on court two. Here, Franco Capalbo and Geronimo Espin Busleiman took the upper hand against Thomas Bosancic and Filippos Astreinidis 6-3, awarding Utah with the first point advantage.

As the match moved to singles the Utes faced some tough competition. On court one, Capalbo swiftly took his victory against the Tigers’ Fnu Nidunjianzan 6-2, 6-2. Bastias also had a win on court three, pulling ahead in in two tough sets with score 7-5, 7-5.

The Princeton Tigers got their first point on court four with a 6-4, 7-5 win. On court five the Tigers took another point as Bugarikj fell 6-2, 7-6 to Ellis Short.

Utah’s clinching point came on court two as Busleiman downed Will Peters in a decisive 7-6, 6-3 match.



The squad will face the winner of the Harvard vs. VCU match on Sunday, Mar.19. The match will be played at SDSU at 12 p.m. MT.
