Utah Advances to NCAA Second Round with 4-1 Win Over ODU


The No. 17  Utah men’s tennis team advances to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament after downing No. 64 Old Dominion 4-1. 

Utah started slow in the doubles. The Monarchs picked up wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots to claim the doubles point advantage going into singles play. 

In singles action every Ute started things off claiming each of their first sets. Francisco Bastias was the first to finish in the No. 3 spot and picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win over Cosme Rolland De Ravel. 

Franco Capalbo was the next to pick up a win as he defeated Francois Le Tallec 6-4, 6-0 in the No. 2 spot. Geronimo Espin Busleiman finished third with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Younes Lalami in the No. 1 spot. 

The Utes had a 3-1 lead and were looking for the clinch. Patrik Trhac came through with a 6-4, 6-4 win in the No. 6 spot over Nicola Vidal to give Utah the 4-1 win victory. 

Utah is now 24-5 overall on the season and will take on the winner of Drake and North Carolina Sunday, May 7 at noon (MT).
