USC’s Emma Charney Named Pac-12 Women’s Tennis Player of the Week.

LOS ANGELES – For the first time this season, USC sophomore Emma Charney has won Pac-12 Player of the Week honors. This is Charney’s first time earning this award in her career, and this marks the 45th all-time weekly award presented to the Women of Troy. 
 
Charney had an impressive performance throughout USC’s matches at ITA Kickoff Weekend in Knoxville, Tenn. The No. 22 ranked Charney played from the No. 1 position in doubles and the No. 2 position in singles during both matches this weekend. She did not lose a match (doubles or singles) and clinched both matches for the Women of Troy.  
 
The sophomore defeated a ranked singles opponent on Friday, downing Miami’s No. 90 ranked Isabelle Pfennig 6-2, 7-5 to send the Trojans through to the ITA Kickoff Weekend Championship match. On Sunday, Charney followed it up with a three-set win over Tennessee’s Catherine Aulia, beating the Vol 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 to clinch the match for the Women of Troy and qualify them for the upcoming ITA National Team Indoor Championships. 
 
In doubles, Charney and her partner Eryn Cayetano defeated the Hurricane duo of Alexa Noel/Xinyi Nong with a score line of 6-2 to help USC haul in the doubles point. In addition to being ranked in singles, Charney is also currently ranked No. 10 in doubles with her partner Cayetano. 
 
The South Carolina native is 17-6 on the season in singles play, and 10-7 in doubles. 
 
Charney and the Women of Troy return to action this weekend as the Trojans head south for a Saturday, Feb. 3 dual against the University of San Diego. The match will begin at 11 a.m.
