Tigers Edged, 4-3, in Second ACC Match – Clemson Tigers Official Athletics Site

BOSTON, M.A. – In a thrilling encounter, the Tigers (7-4, 0-2 ACC) battled hard against Boston College (5-4, 1-2 ACC), but were narrowly defeated 4-3 on Sunday in Boston.

In doubles, Leigh Van Zyl and Cristina Mayorova defeated Nada Dimovska Seren Agar 6-1 to take the early lead. On courts, one and three, Tiger duos dueled to a level 5-5, and Eleni Louka and Jenna Thompson broke the tie on court one after falling 7-5. 

The doubles point came down to Sophia Hatton and Alina Tsyurpalevych on court 3. Tied at 6-6, the duo was ultimately edged 7-6 by Natalie Eordekian and Tola Glowacka. 

The singles match kicked off with most of the Tigers, except for Louka and Tsyurpalevych, dominating their first sets against the Eagles. Sophia Hatton emerged as the first Tiger to score a point that day, outplaying Agar 6-1, 6-3, and bringing the score to a tie with Boston College at 1-1. However, the tide turned as Tsyurpalevych was defeated by Muskan Mahajan 6-1, 6-1, and Louka narrowly lost 6-4, 6-3 to Aguiar. 

Thompson secured the Tigers second point of the day, beating Agar 6-1, 6-3. Mayorova and Van Zyl were racing to secure the last two points as the score was 2-3. After winning their first sets respectively, Mayorova was up 4-3 in her second set but ultimately fell 4-6, and Van Zyl was level at 5-5 in her second set but fell 5-7, sending both into their third sets

Van Zyl triumphed over Dimovska 6-0 in her third set, tying the score 3-3. Shortly after, Mayorova fell 2-6, giving the Eagles the win. 

What’s Next: The Tigers are gearing up to return home to Clemson, S.C, where they will face off against Virginia Tech (6-2, 1-0 ACC) on Friday, March 1, at 5 p.m.
