Tigers Drop Match to Georgia Tech – Clemson Tigers Official Athletics Site

CLEMSON, S.C. –  The Clemson men’s tennis team (9-6, 0-3 ACC) competed well Wednesday night at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility against Georgia Tech (10-7, 1-2 ACC) but came up short, 4-1.

The Tigers got out the gates strong in doubles but were unable to secure the win on Court 2, losing 6-2. Spencer Whitaker and Ryuhei Azuma battled from Court 1 against the No. 15 doubles team in the country in Marcus McDaniel/Andres Martin, but narrowly dropped the match 6-4. Matt Pitts and Jorge Plans Gonzalez were up 4-3 as the match went unfinished.

M. Pitts continued his steady play by tying things up for the Tigers 1-1 with a 6-2, 6-3 win on Court 4. Georgia Tech didn’t back down though, securing points on Courts 3 and 5 to extend their lead to 3-1. Max Smith battled on Court 6 to push a tiebreak in the second game but would ultimately drop his match, 6-4, 7-6 (8-6).

Up next, the Tigers will hit the road for the first away ACC match of the season in Weymouth, Mass. as they take on Boston College on Friday. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
