Tennis Vols Ink Filip Apltauer, Fifth Member of 2023 Class

Filip Apltauer, a native of Prague, Czech Republic, has signed an institutional aid agreement with the Tennessee men’s tennis team and will join the Vols for the 2023 fall season.

Apltauer (pronounced: APPLE-tower) is the fifth freshman to sign with the Vols for the upcoming season.

With a career-high ITF singles ranking of No. 86, Apltauer recently made his first pro singles quarterfinal, defeating Vladislav Ivanov (ATP 990), 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, at the M15 Kish Island.

“We are really looking forward to getting Filip here in the fall,” Tennessee associate head coach James McKie said. “He is an exceptional young man with a great family. He has a unique game style and we believe he will adapt very quickly to life in Knoxville. He will help us tremendously on the singles and doubles courts.”

Throughout his junior career he won seven doubles titles—five in 2022—along with one singles title.

With ATP rankings of No. 1578 in singles and No. 1284 in doubles. Apltauer has made two pro doubles finals, one in Monastir, Tunisia, and one in Melilla, Spain.
