Tennis Falls 5-2 To Ole Miss Sunday

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The University of Missouri tennis team battled all match long, winning the doubles point and seeing four singles matches go to the third set, but lost a 5-2 decision to Ole Miss in Southeastern Conference action on Sunday at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Missouri.

The Tigers (10-8, 1-5 Southeastern Conference) got doubles win from second pairing Andrea Artemedi and Emelie Schwarte and third duo Romary Cardenas-Rifka and Gabriela Martinez. Artemedi and Schwarte won a 9-7 tiebreaker while Cardenas and Martinez took a 7-3 tiebreaker. Mae Canete and Inah Canete had a 4-1 lead at No. 1 doubles but couldn’t close out the No. 59 doubles team of Anaelle Leclercq and Ludmila Kareisova who won 7-5.

The Rebels (7-6, 1-4 SEC) closed out No. 6 and No. 5 singles in straight sets to make the score 2-1 in their favor.

Mizzou was up a set in the rest of the matches but Ole Miss added another point at No. 3 singles before Mae Canete won a 7-3, third-set tiebreaker for the victory at No. 1 singles to give Mizzou another point. 

Schwarte and Kareisova traded tiebreakers of their own with Mizzou getting the 7-1 edge in the first-set tiebreaker and Ole Miss getting a 7-1 edge in the third-set tiebreaker which clinched the match. Kareisova extended a seven-match singles winning streak and has started the year 6-0 in SEC play.
