KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Jan Kobierski and Albert Saar have signed with the Tennessee men’s tennis team and will join the squad for the upcoming spring campaign, head coach Chris Woodruff announced Monday.
“Assistant coach Jaime Barajas and I couldn’t be more excited about the addition of these two amazing young men to our program in January,” said associate head coach Matt Lucas. “Albert and Jan have been two of the best juniors in the world and have also had great success on the ITF Pro Circuit. Getting to know these two over the recruiting period confirmed their goals for their tennis and academics and showed the coaching staff just how good each of their characters was.”
Kobierski hails from Graz, Austria, where he holds an ITF Juniors career-high ranking of No. 73 and an ATP career-high slot of No. 1247 in singles and No. 1116 in doubles. He has played in a multitude of tournaments this past fall, including matchups in Turkey, Romania, Serbia and Austria.
Saar has an ITF Juniors career-high ranking of No. 51 and four titles to his name. The Stockholm, Sweden, native has a career-high ATP doubles placement of No. 1237 and a UTR of 12.14. The last few months, he has competed in tournaments in Sweden, France, Italy and Serbia.
“We certainly got better with the addition of these guys and cannot wait to get them to Rocky Top to start the spring semester,” Lucas added. “They both will make an immediate impact on our team positively on the court and in the classroom.”
With the signings of Kobierski and Saar, Tennessee boasts a squad that will have eight newcomers headed into the spring slate, as well as two returning players.
