BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech women’s tennis (10-6, 1-5) fell to No. 24 Notre Dame (11-6, 2-4), 5-2, on Sunday afternoon.
Tech couldn’t find much success to start the match falling into an early hole in all three matches before eventually conceding the doubles point.
The Irish picked up a straight-set victory on Court 1 but the Hokies hung around with Tamara Barad Izthaki climbing back in the first set to win, 7-5, and then closed it out on a tear in the second set, 6-0. Katie Andreini traded blows with her Irish challenger coming out on top in the third set, 6-1, 2-6, 6-3, keeping Tech in the match.
Charlotte Cartledge looked poised to prevail on Court 6 cruising to a 6-1 win in the second set and produced a lead for the majority of the third set, but Notre Dame’s Matsuno Akari came back to win.
