One day after dispatching of No. 4 Texas in a 4-3 thriller, Saturday’s affair was a little more manageable for the hosts. The Cardinal swept all three doubles courts to take the first point, with Stanford’s ranked pairs at Nos. 1 and 2 finishing simultaneously after India Houghton and Valancia Xu handily won their match at No. 3, 6-0.
Xu did much the same in singles, winning 6-1, 6-0 to get Stanford its second point. Alexis Blokhina won at No. 3, 6-1, 6-1, and India Houghton clinched on court six, 6-1, 6-1.
The remaining courts finished out, with Eleana Yu beating her opponent, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 5. Camille Kiss secured the Gauchos only point with a 6-7, (3), 6-3, 10-6 win over Alexandra Yepifanova at No. 2. Connie Ma beat her ranked opponent, No. 62 Amelia Honer, in straight-set tiebreaks 7-6 (4), 7-6 (6).
Stanford is home again next weekend to host Saint Mary’s on Saturday, March 2 at noon PT.
