SEATTLE – For the second time in three weeks, Husky senior Hikaru Sato has won Pac-12 Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honors. Sato had a win at No. 1 singles for the Dawgs last Friday in a key road victory at Baylor.

In the 5-2 win for the 26th-ranked Dawgs, Sato, herself ranked No. 100, defeated 109th-ranked Alina Shcherbinina in a back and forth battle, 6-1, 6-7 (2), 6-3.

The Dawgs got a measure of revenge against the then-No. 37 Bears, as Washington fell in the NCAA first round to Baylor in Waco last season. With a much different look to its lineup this season, the Huskies turned the tables and got their second top-40 win of the year.

Sato also won the honor on Feb. 14. She is the first Husky to win multiple Player of the Week awards in one season since Venise Chan in 2010.
