SAN FRANCISCO – Giacomo Revelli and Patrick Zahraj of the UCLA men’s tennis team were honored by the Pac-12 Thursday, as the conference announced its postseason awards and All-Conference accolades.
Both student-athletes were named to the All-Conference Second Team. Revelli’s inclusion represents a first, while Zahraj made the team after earning Honorable Mention recognition in 2022.
Revelli’s 14 total singles wins entering NCAA play are a career high. The sophomore’s 10 dual-match doubles victories are also a career best. Revelli recorded 18 of his 19 dual-match singles decision on Court 2, where he posted two match-clinching points. In the first round of ITA Kickoff Weeknd action, he downed No. 114 David Stevenson of Memphis to seal a team win (Jan. 28). Revelli went on to defeat No. 43 Geronimo Espin Busleiman of Utah in the Pac-12 Championships quarterfinal round (April 27). Revelli also prevailed against No. 44 Bradley Frye of USC at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships (Oct. 21, 2022). On the doubles courts, Revelli and Timothy climbed to No. 49 in the ITA’s regular-season-ending rankings. The pair has knocked off No. 53 Berk Bugarikj/Patrik Trhac of Utah at the Pac-12 Championships (6-2), No. 41 Bugarikj/Trhac again during the regular season (April 22 – 6-4), No. 30 Joshua Charlton/Quinn Vandecasteele of Oregon (April 15 – 7-5) and No. 73 Jay Friend/Jonas Ziverts of Arizona (March 31 – 7-5) since the start of Pac-12 competition – all on Court 1. Revelli and Zahraj also teamed to beat No. 34 Daniel De Jonge and Tim Zeitvogel of Pepperdine 6-1 on the top court (Jan 21).
Redshirt senior Zahraj is 9-7 in dual-match singles play (11-9 overall) and has occupied the No. 1 singles spot for the past 17 matches. During that stretch, Zahraj has beaten two nationally-ranked counterparts in No. 81 Franco Capalbo of Utah (April 22 – 6-4. 6-2) and No. 121 Edoardo Graziani of Pennsylvania (March 8 – 6-4, 6-7[6], 1-0[0]). Zahraj has also clinched two team victories. On the doubles courts, he has had a hand in clinching three points. In the Bruins’ thrilling 4-3 victory at Arizona State (April 2), Zahraj and Stefan Leustian teamed to beat Murphy Cassone and Roi Ginat 7-6(3) in an all-or-nothing result on Court 2.
