Purdue Transfer Purohit Dons Purple

SEATTLE — Washington will have some insider’s knowledge as it enters its first season in the Big Ten, as Head Coach Rahim Esmail announced the addition of Purdue transfer Soham Purohit for the 2024-25 season. It’s a homecoming for Purohit, a Kirkland, Wash. native.

“I’m super pumped to be a Husky,” said Purohit. “It’s always been a dream to play at home for such a special program and be able to represent the purple and gold!”

Purohit was a key starter for the Boilermakers in his freshman season last year, going 10-8 in dual play, the majority coming at No. 2 singles where he was 7-6. His 10 dual wins led Purdue. Purohit also played 14 matches at No. 1 doubles, going 5-9. He was also named the Big Ten Co-Player of the Week on March 6, the first Boilermaker since 2017 to win a weekly award.

“We are extremely excited to have Soham join our program,” said Coach Esmail. “Soham has a great amount of talent and we see him having an immediate impact in our singles and doubles lineup. He is very committed to helping the Huskies continue to grow and I am confident that Soham will play a major role in guiding the Huskies to greater successes in the future years as we continue to build.”

A graduate of Lake Washington High School, Purohit was ranked as high as No. 23 nationally in the class of 2023 by TennisRecruiting.net, and he was the top recruit in Washington and in the Northwest region. He had the No. 1 TennisRPI nationally as of Aug. 30, 2023.
