Penn State Women's Tennis Kicks Off Day One of ITA Atlantic Regionals


BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Penn State women’s tennis team participated in the first day of the ITA Atlantic Regional Championship. Two Nittany Lions saw action on the day. 
 
SINGLES
 
Karly Friedland and Alina Lebedeva competed in two rounds of qualifying singles. 
 

Friedland defeated Raffaela Alhach of William & Mary 6-2, 3-6, [12-10]. She continued on to the second qualifying singles round of the tournament, where she competed against Margaret Navarro. Friedland was successful in her match against Navarro of Virginia 6-2, 6-2.
 
Lebedeva won her match against Kirsten Wijnsema of Saint Joseph’s 7-6 (7-3), 6-1. She competed against Gabriela Ana Maria Davidescu of Virginia Commonwealth in the second qualifying singles round. Lebedeva prevailed over Davidescu 3-6, 6-4, [10 – 7]. 
 
Both Friedland and Lebedeva will advance on to the Main Draw Singles Round. 
 
NEXT UP
 
On Friday, Oct. 21, there will be one round of Main Draw Doubles played. Additionally, rounds of 64 and 32 Main Draw Singles will occur. Play will start at 8 a.m. for inside courts and 9 a.m. for outside courts.
