CARY, N.C. – A pair of Gators are advancing to the second round of prequalifying at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American Championships after strong showings at the Cary Tennis Park on Saturday.
Alicia Dudeney, ranked No. 119 in the ITA preseason rankings, was dominant against Emma Vanderheyden of Marshall. The 10th overall seed in the bracket, Dudeney made quick work of her opponent, earning a straight-set victory: 6-4, 6-2. She is slated to meet Oregon’s Uxia Martinez Moral at 9 a.m. ET on Sunday.
Freshman Rachel Gailis earned her first win in a Gators uniform on Saturday, taking down Butler’s Natalie Boesing in straight sets. After battling to a 6-4 opening set victory, the 13th-seed then made quick work of the Bulldog in set two, taking down her opponent, 6-2, to claim the match. Gailis will matchup with Camille Kiss of UC Santa Barbara at 10 a.m. ET on Sunday morning.
Also taking the courts again on Sunday will be Carly Briggs, Emma Shelton and Bente Spee in the consolation bracket of prequalifying. Briggs and Spee will get the action started at 11:30 a.m. ET while Shelton will begin at 12 p.m. ET.
