NU Heads to California for Ball State, Doubles Tournament


The Nebraska men’s tennis team (6-5, 0-0 Big Ten) heads to La Jolla, Calif., to compete against Ball State in a neutral match on Thursday, March 2 at 1 p.m. (CT) at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club. 
 
NU is coming off a successful weekend at the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Ala., that saw the team upset No. 38 Alabama, 4-3. The Huskers finished the weekend with a 2-1 record. 
 
Scouting Ball State (8-3, 0-0 Mid-American)
• Ball State enters its match against Nebraska ranked No. 74 nationally, with an 8-3 record and on a five-match win streak. 
• The Cardinals are 1-2 in matches against Big Ten teams this season, with a win against Purdue and losses to Indiana and Michigan State. 

Series History

Nebraska is 0-2 all time against Ball State, with the last matchup coming in March of 2005, which Ball State won 4-3. The other matchup, won 4-2 by Ball State, came in March of 1996.

Nebraska Nationally Ranked

The Huskers, now ranked No. 50 nationally, jumped into the ITA Top 75 for the first time this season following their upset win of then-No. 38 Alabama this past weekend. 

Pacific Coast Doubles Championship

Following the match against the Cardinals, the Huskers will be taking part in the Pacific Coast Men’s Doubles Championship, also at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club, starting on Thursday night. William Gleason and Calvin Mueller play Friday at 10:50 a.m. (CT), with Roni Hietaranta and Shunya Maruyama following at 12:30 p.m. (CT).
