No. 8 USC Men's Tennis Doubles Up on Wins to Open Dual Action

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. — The No. 8 USC men’s tennis team pulled double duty today at Marks Stadium and emerged with a perfect day that saw the Trojans take down visiting Sacramento State and UC Irvine with 7-0 score lines.
 
In doubles against the Hornets, Peter Makk and Lodewijk Weststrate would record a swift 6-0 win over Maior/Chodur (SAC ST.) to put the Trojans out front. The doubles point would be won on court three as Wojtek Marek and Samuel Rubell would defeat Patrick Wong/Hayden Rand (SAC ST.) 6-1. 
 
USC carried momentum into singles with a one-point advantage and never let up. The Trojans captured all six singles matches in two sets with Bruin transfer Karl Lee (court six) recording his first dual match singles win with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Hornet Patrick Wong. Shortly thereafter Ryan Colby would defeat Ori Maior (SAC ST.) 6-1, 6-2 on court four to put the Trojans one point away from a win. The match was decided on center court as #38 Peter Makk downed Sac. State’s Mark Keki 6-2, 6-3. Trojans Samuel Rubell, Lodewijk Weststrate and Wojtek Marek each turned in singles wins to secure a 7-0 shutout. 
 
In the afternoon the Trojans would capture the doubles point, courtesy of wins by #12 Dostanic/Frye (6-2) on center court and Colby/Lee (6-2) on court three. The Trojans would go on to sweep the Anteaters in singles play as #12 Stefan Dostanic (6-1, 6-2), Karl Lee (6-0, 6-4) and Wojtek Marek (6-1,6-4) would give USC the three points necessary to clinch the match. Remaining matches were played out with Bradley Frye, Ryan Colby and Samuel Rubell each recording singles wins to bring the final score to 7-0 in favor of the Trojans. 
 
USC’s next competition brings Vanderbilt, Memphis and UCLA to town on Saturday, Jan. 28 for ITA Kickoff weekend. USC will serve as host for an 11 a.m. UCLA vs. Memphis match and will take to the courts at 2 p.m. for a dual against Vanderbilt. The consolation match is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 29 at 11 a.m., while the championship match will begin at 2 p.m.
