Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The No. 41 Penn State women’s tennis team (8-8) fell to the No. 30 Charlotte 49ers (13-4), 4-3.
DOUBLES
The Nittany Lions struck first and took the doubles point. Ioana Gheorghita and Alina Lebedeva defeated Emma Wilkins and Lucie Petruzelova, 6-3.
At No. 2, Alexandra Nielsen and Yvonna Zuffova fell to Ruxi Schech and Kaavya Sawhney for Charlotte to tie it up in doubles matches. However, Sofiya Chekhlystova and Carla Girbau declared victory over Lucia Quiterio and Margaux Maquet to clinch the doubles point for Penn State.
SINGLES
Charlotte won _ singles points to win the match.
The 49ers took the first singles point with Alina Lebedeva’s loss to Kaavya Sawhney, 6-1, 6-2. At No. 3, Ioana Gheorghita fell to Margaux Maquet in a close match, 6-4, 6-4.
Carla Girbau lost her match to Lucis Petruzelova, 6-3, 6-4. Yvonne Zuffova fell to Lucia Quiterio in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
No. 43 Sofiya Chekhlystova defeated Ruxi Schech after a close first set, 7-6 (7-0), 6-3. Olivia Dorner tallied Penn State’s second singles win of the day by taking a win over Emma Wilkins in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
