No. 24 Gators Open SEC Play with No.2 Texas A&M & No. 34 LSU


GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 24 Gators are set to open Southeastern Conference play this weekend when they host No. 2 Texas A&M and No. 34 LSU on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
 

Friday’s match against Texas A&M is slated to begin at 5 p.m. ET, while Sunday’s matchup will begin at 1 p.m. ET, both at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.
 
REVENGE ON THE MIND

Friday marks the second meeting between the Aggies and Gators this season, with Texas A&M taking the first meeting on Jan. 30, 4-2. Sara Dahlstrom took down then-No. 51 Jayci Goldsmith, 6-1, 6-3, while Emily De Oliveira defeated No. 105 Jeanette Mireless, 6-0, 7-6 for the Orange & Blue’s two singles win. All-time, Florida holds a 9-6 advantage over A&M, but the Aggies have claimed the last three meetings. In Gainesville, UF is 4-2 in the series.
 
SERIES HISTORY VS. LSU

The Gators and Tigers meet for the 52nd time in series history on Sunday, with the Orange & Blue holding a dominant 49-2 advantage. Florida has won the last two matchups, including a 6-1 decision on Mar. 4, 2022, in Baton Rouge, La. In Gainesville, the Gators are 22-1 against the Tigers.
 
ITA RANKINGS
In the latest ITA Rankings, the Gators find themselves ranked No. 24 as a team. Individually, Carly Briggs leads the way with a ranking of No. 61, while Sara Dahlstrom and Anastasia Sysoeva both remain in the rankings as well, sitting at 83rd and 106th, respectively.
 
TOP-5 OPPORTUNITY
The Gators will be looking for their first win over a top-five opponent since April 7, 2018, when they took down No. 5 South Carolina, 4-2, in Columbia. They could also pick-up their first victory over a top-two opponent since Mar. 14, 2017, when they defeated No. 2 Ohio State, 4-1.
 
SEC STRONG

The latest ITA rankings feature 12 SEC teams in the top-75 poll. Texas A&M (2), Georgia (6) and Auburn (8) all sit inside the top-10 for the SEC, while Vanderbilt (18), Tennessee (20) and Florida (24) round-out the top-25. Also sitting in the rankings include LSU (34), South Carolina (38), Arkansas (49), Kentucky (58), Alabama (61), Mississippi State (69) and Ole Miss (73).
