No. 23 Florida State Travels To Play Three Weekend Matches

TALLAHASSEE – The 23rd-ranked Florida State men’s tennis team resumes play Friday when it travels to play Wake Forest at Wake Forest Tennis Center at 5 p.m. The Seminoles play NC State and North Carolina Central on Sunday at 12 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively. 

Florida State is led by junior Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc, who is the No. 4 singles player in the nation. Cornut-Chauvinc enters this weekend’s matches with a 9-1 record with five of those wins coming against ranked opponents. 

Cornut-Chauvinc has won three weekly honors after winning ACC’s co-Player of the Week on January 31, his third weekly honor after earning Player of the Week and Doubles Pair of the Week on January 17. 

Sophomores Maks Silagy and Joshua Dous-Karpenschif earned Florida State its fourth weekly award this season after earning ACC Doubles Pair of the Week on February 28.  

Youcef Rihane, ranked 107th nationally, is 10-2 and has beaten two nationally ranked players so far this year. Rihane is the first Seminole to record double-digit wins this season.  

Wake Forest is 15-5 on the season and ranked 14 in the nation. The Demon Deacons most recently defeated both No. 69 Georgia Tech and No. 44 Clemson by a score of 6-1. Wake Forest has three players in the national singles rankings, led by No. 21-ranked Melios Efstathiou, Jurabek Karimov and Filippo Moroni are also ranked in singles play.   

No.32-ranked North Carolina State is 8-4 on the season. The Wolfpack have two ranked doubles teams with Rafael Iziquierdo Luque and Joseph Wayand ranked 29th in the country and Robin Catry and Luca Staeheli ranked 55th. Izquierdo is also ranked 77th in singles play. 

North Carolina Central is 1-9 on the season, with its lone victory coming in a 4-3 win over North Carolina Greensboro.
