No. 2 Women’s Tennis Makes It 5-0 With Win Over NC Central

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The No. 2 University of North Carolina women’s tennis team concluded its five-match home stretch with a 7-0 win over NC Central on Wednesday evening at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center, improving its overall record to 5-0.

The Tar Heels, who have not dropped the doubles point this season, earned the opening point to jump out to a quick 1-0 start. The duo of Elizabeth Scotty and Anika Yarlagadda swept Candice Bernier and Alejandra Hildalgo, 6-0, in the second spot before Reese Brantmeier and Reilly Tran secured the clinch after topping Kennedy Hill and Jade Houston, 6-1, on the first court.

No. 58 Scotty continued the momentum from doubles into singles where she posted back-to-back 6-1 sets over Bernier on court two for UNC’s first singles point. No. 18 Yarlagadda then added a point of her own on the third court after besting Houston by a 6-1, 6-0 score.

Earning her third win in as many days was freshman Brantmeier on court one. She defeated Hill, 6-1, 6-0, for the first clinching point of her collegiate career.

Playing out the match saw No. 48 Tran, Sophia Patel and Sara McClure also earn singles victories as Carolina won its third-straight 7-0 contest.

The Tar Heels hit the road for the first time this season as they travel to Auburn, Alabama, for a pair of matches at the Yarbrough Tennis Center. UNC will play Wisconsin on Jan. 21 before taking on No. 15 Auburn the following day, with both matches set for 1 p.m. ET.
