NASHVILLE, Tenn.— Vanderbilt women’s tennis fell 4-1 to No. 2 Texas A&M on Sunday afternoon. The match closed out the regular season. The Dores will play in the SEC Women’s Tennis Championship tournament this coming week.
In doubles play, the first two matches were split, with Bridget Stammel and Anessa Lee claiming Court 3 and the Aggies taking Court 2. The doubles point came down to Court 1, where Anna Ross and Holly Staff forced the tiebreak set but ultimately fell 7-6 (7-2).
The Aggies’ success continued in singles play, with victories on Courts 3 and 5 to give Texas A&M a 3-0 lead over Vanderbilt. Senior Marcella Cruz picked up the lone point for the Commodores, winning straight-sets for a singles victory in her last home match as a Dore. The Aggies went on to the clinch the victory when No. 2 Mary Stoiana of Texas A&M beat Vandy’s No. 34 Celia-Belle Mohr on Court 1.
