No. 16 Wake Forest Prepped for Sunday Matinee at No. 42 Baylor


WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The 16th-ranked Wake Forest men’s tennis team will return to action Sunday when the Demon Deacons travel to the Lone Star state to take on defending Big 12 Champion, No. 42 Baylor inside the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.
 
The Demon Deacons (17-6, 3-1 ACC) are unbeaten in road matches this season, boasting a 2-0 record behind victories at ACC opponents Georgia Tech and Clemson.
 
This season, Wake Forest is led by No. 21 Melios Efstathiou as the Limassol, Cyprus native owns a 13-2 duals singles record, including two top 10 victories. Of note, as a team, the Demon Deacons hold an 18-2 record in first singles.

Last Time Out
Including the team’s third ACC victory of the season, Wake Forest swept last Sunday’s action by defeating No. 60 Miami 4-1 and Coastal Carolina 4-0 at the Wake Forest Tennis Center.

The Demon Deacons began the double-header with a 4-1 victory over No. 60 Miami. After the Hurricanes secured the doubles point, five Demon Deacons won their first set in singles action before No. 21 Melios Efstathiou (6-4, 6-3 vs. No. 44 Dan Martin), No. 122 Filippo Moroni (6-4, 7-5 vs. Antonio Prat), Luciano Tacchi (6-4, 6-2 vs. Leonard Bierbaum) and Juan Lopez de Azcona (6-3, 6-3 vs. Nacho Serra Sanchez) secured victories.

In the afternoon showdown with the Chanticleers, Wake Forest picked up a highly-competitive doubles point thanks to the No. 30 pairing of Moroni and Lopez de Azcona at 7-6 (7-5) before securing the 4-0 victory to close out the weekend. Lopez de Azcona led the way for the Deacs with a 6-0, 6-3 decision in fifth singles.

The Matchup – No. 42 Baylor

Baylor enters Sunday’s match with a 8-10 record, including a 7-5 mark at home. The Bears own a 1-9 ledger against ranked opponents this season with the lone victory coming during ITA Kickoff Weekend against then ninth-ranked Florida State.
