No. 14 Wake Forest Defeats No. 50 Notre Dame, UNC Greensboro

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Combating early adverse weather conditions, the 14th-ranked Wake Forest men’s tennis team earned consecutive 6-1 victories over Atlantic Coast Conference opponent No. 50 Notre Dame and in-state foe UNC Greensboro Sunday at the Wake Forest Tennis Center.
 
Sunday’s win against Notre Dame marked the Demon Deacons’ (21-6, 5-1 ACC) 11th-consecutive victory over the Fighting Irish, dating back to the 2015 season. Additionally, the Deacs’ win over the Fighting Irish marked their ninth win over a ranked opponent this season as Wake Forest owns a 9-6 ledger against ranked foes to start the 2023 campaign.
 
The win also improved the Deacs to 5-1 in ACC play this season, and through six conference matches, the Demon Deacons are currently fourth in the league and only one match out of first place.
 
Of note, Wake Forest’s victory over UNC Greensboro improved the Deacs to a stellar 17-0 against in-state opponents since the beginning of last season.
 
Against the Irish Sunday, Wake Forest jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after securing the doubles point with wins in the first and second slots. The Demon Deacons then carried their momentum into singles play, notching victories on 5-of-6 courts en route to the 6-1 victory.
 
After registering its fifth-consecutive win in the contest against Notre Dame, Wake Forest turned around to face UNC Greensboro less than two hours later. The Demon Deacons dropped the doubles point, before sweeping the Spartans in singles action to secure a triumphant 6-1 victory.
