No. 14 USC Women’s Tennis Downs LMU, CSUN To Open 2023 Dual Action

The No. 14 USC women’s tennis team notched a 2-0 start to 2023 dual action with back-to-back shutout wins today (Jan. 19) at Marks Stadium. In all, USC topped Loyola Marymount and CSUN with 4-0 score lines. 
 
In doubles, the Trojan duo of Grace Piper and Nathalie Rodilosso beat Lion’s Kunkel/Zahraj 6-0 on court three. Shortly thereafter, the No. 20 ranked pair of Madison Sieg and Eryn Cayetano defeated Voracek/Rogozinska (LMU) 6-1 on court two to successfully claim the doubles point. 
 
USC led the match 1-0 entering singles play where No. 2 Madison Sieg would notch the Trojans first dual match singles win of the season with a swift 6-1, 6-1 victory over lion Eva Marie Voracek. Freshman No. 83 ranked Emma Charney officially mader her first mark as a Trojan by beating LMU’s Kim-Michaela Zahraj 6-0, 6-2 on court five. McKenna Koenig would seal the deal for Troy on court six, defeating Lion Luciana Kunkel 6-1, 6-2. 
 
The Trojans stuck with their doubles lineup in the afternoon versus the Matadors, but the results remained the same: two quick doubles wins, via No. 20 Cayetano/Sieg (6-0 win over CSUN’s Turchak/Zhytelna) on court two and Snow Han and Naomi Cheong (6-1 win over CSUN’s Coetzee/Ho) on center court. USC’s Sloane Morra clinched the match for The Women of Troy in singles play, thanks to 6-4, 6-2 win on court five over CSUN’s Solis. Isabelle Lee (6-1, 6-2) and McKenna Koenig (6-0, 6-2) provided the two other singles points to put a stamp on the 4-0 win. 
 
The Women of Troy now turn to another doubleheader clash on Saturday (Jan. 21), when USC welcomes San Diego (12 p.m.) and San Diego St. (4 p.m.) to Marks Stadium.
