No. 1 Women's Tennis Defeats Georgia Tech, 6-1


Box Score Atlanta, Ga. – The Tar Heels continue their winning ways, taking down Georgia Tech 6-1 at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex.
 
The Tar Heels fought hard to win the double point in 3 contested matches. The Yellow Jackets struck first as Kylie Bilchev/Alejandra Cruz won 6-2 over Fiona Crawley and Carson Tanguilig in two-doubles. The Heels got on the board as Abbey Forbes/Reilly Tran fought hard to hold on to a 6-4 win over Monika Dedaj/RosieGarcia Gross of Georgia Tech 6-4.
 
The doubles point came down to one-doubles with Carol Lee/Kate Sharabura taking on No. 15 Reese Brantmeier/Elizabeth Scotty. Brantmeier and Scotty battled from 1-4 down, to take the match to a 6-6 tie-break set. Scotty and Brantmeier continued to battle, winning the tie-break 8-6 to give the Heels the 1-0 lead.
 
No. 22 Anika Yarlagadda got things going for the Heels in singles as she won the first set over Rosie Garcia Gross of Georgia Tech, 6-0. Garcia Gross made things challenging, exchanging breaks before Yarlagadda won the match with the second set 6-4 to complete the amtch on court 5; 6-0, 6-4 and give the Tar Heels the 2-0 lead.
 
Alejandra Cruz of Georgia Tech get the point on court 4 defeating Abbey Forbes 6-2, 6-3.
 
No. 75 Reilly Tran keep things rollings, taking down Katie Andreini 6-2 before needing a second set tie-break win 7-6 (7-2). No. 15 Carson Tanguilig then needed three sets to defeat No. 99 Mahak Jain of Georgia Tech 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 to clinch the match.
 
Freshman No. 33 Reese Brantmeier then defeated No. 27 Kylie Bilchev 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) using the tiebreaker to give the Tar Heels the 5-1 advantage in the match. 
 
Finishing the match, No. 1 Fiona Crawley defeated No. 8 Carol Lee in a two-hour affair 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).
 
The Tar Heels will make the short trip north of Atlanta to Clemson, S.C., taking on the Tigers at 12 PM on Sunday, March 12 at the Duckworth Family Tennis Center on the Clemson campus.
