NC State tennis opens up ACC play at Clemson


RALEIGH NC State opens ACC play with two road trips this weekend, starting at Clemson on Friday.
 
The Pack (6-4) will take on the Tigers at 5 p.m.
 
It will be the ACC opener for both schools.
 
Clemson leads the all-time series 51-20, but NC State has won eight in a row. The Pack have won four straight ACC openers. 
 

 
Last time out: NC State defeated Elon, 5-2, in their first outdoor match of the season. The Pack took the doubles point with dominating wins by Braden Shick and Fons Van Sambeek and Robin Catry and Luca Staeheli
 
NC State jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the singles field before Elon took the last two matches on courts 1 and 2.
 
Pack in the Rankings: Four members of the NC State tennis team are ranked in the latest ITA poll. Rafa Izquierdo Luque is ranked No. 75 in the singles poll. Luque is also ranked in the doubles at No. 39 with partner Joe Wayand. Robin Catry and Luca Staeheli are ranked No. 50. 
 
Scouting the Tigers: Clemson (9-3) comes in at No. 44 in the ITA Rankings. The Tigers are coming off a 4-1 win over UNC-Wilmington. Clemson’s top singles’ player is Nini Dica (7-1), who comes into the match on a two-game winning streak. Jorge Plans Gonzalez and Max Smith are the Tigers’ top duo with a record of 7-1. Gonzalez and Smith are on a three-game streak.
